That's probably true most of the time, but I think it is possible for someone to disapprove (hate) of an activity (the sin?), but let the respect for the individual (the sinner?) dictate the response. Your "What they say/What they mean" is perhaps too simplistic. But I respect you, not hate you, nonetheless.
